The following activity is creative and caters to different types of learners, it adheres to the following curriculum expectations:
B2.3 build molecular models for a variety of simple organic compounds
B3.5 explain the concept of isomerism in organic compounds, and how variations in the properties of isomers relate to their structural and molecular formulae
Organic isomers:
Using molecular modeling kits, students will build models of a variety of isomers of several organic compounds. They can also use the model kit to build models of various hydrocarbons and compare and contrast the structures. They learn how to relate the 3D structures to the 2D drawings they use.
Using the organic molecular model set, make:
