Water, an Essential for Life
Lesson Hook
To start off this two part lesson, bring a globe in class and discuss the discrepancies between the amount of water covering the Earth and how much fresh water there is. This can be done as a class discussion or in smaller groups. Following that, students will watch a Crash Course Video on the properties of water.

Pedagogical Approach
This approach will comprise of the teacher conducting a Chalk Talk explaining the importance of water, the properties of water and the water cycle.
Consolidation
Students will get the opportunity to fill out the chart to learn how much water they consume. A discussion about water consumption is recommended to further consolidate the importance of water.

Pedagogical Approach
For this part of the lesson, students will go through the Jigsaw Activity. The Jigsaw Activity works by dividing the class into groups of 4. Each student in the group will be given a topic which they will research on. Each student will then go to their expert group, where everyone has the same topic. Once they research on the topic, they will go back to their original group and teach their peers on their topic. The topics include: hard water, soft water, polluted water, and acid rain.
For the second part of the lesson, students will test out various water samples for “hardness” and compare/contrast the results
