Equilibrium of Weak Acids and Bases
Lesson Hook:
A list of common household objects will be shown to the students and they are to estimate the pH of each of the products. There is no right or wrong answer, and you are just asking for classroom participation.
Lesson:
POGIL can be used for part of this lesson. Be prepared to answer all the questions that the students may have. This POGIL covers the pH of strong acids or bases. This POGIL is not sufficient for this lesson, and in the second part of this lesson, the acid dissociation constant will be introduced. They will be guided through the weak acids and bases in terms of equilibrium using the acid dissociation constant. The students will use the ICE chart to solve problems.
Consolidation:
This lesson will close up with a sheet that has the pH of some of the common house hold products that people have.
