Amides
Hook:
Pedagogy:
Once again, the same as previous lessons.
However, note the formation of amides, and how it is almost identical to the formation of esters (Which is helpful for remembering how things react). It is also important to note that 3' amines do not form esters.
Once again, with two classes of chemicals with similar names, there is a mnemonic trick for remembering amines vs amides. AmiNes only have nitrogen aside from carbon and hydrogen, while amIDes (with "di" in their name) are made from the reaction of two other organic chemicals.
Consolidation:
Using model kits students must build an amide as well as the two organic chemicals which formed the amide.
