Lesson Hook
For this lesson, students will calculate their carbon footprint by going to http://myfootprint.org/ and answering questions based on where they live, their family income, and the number of cars their family owns.
Pedagogical Approach
For this pedagogical approach, students will conduct a Gizmo on greenhouse gases and answer questions. Then, students will be introduced to policies that have been introduced in order to control these greenhouse gas emissions and whether or not Canada, in particular, is promoting a green environment.
Consolidate
A good way to consolidate this lesson is through an Exit Card. Have students think of at least 3 ways to reduce their carbon footprint. Discuss some of these responses as a class and make some goals as a class in order to reduce the overall impact.
